~Halloween ~

I made these a few years ago and the idea still holds up...

Find uses for the plastic grocery bags, I think it was about 20 or more bags

all together...I don't have complete instructions for the witch and the spider but

I have some general directions, see below if your interested.

I do have detailed instructions for the ghost I like to call Boo if you need them...

Have fun and Happy Halloween!

The following are some of many different types of craft techniques and ideas.

I have included some information for those that have no step by step instructions

so that you'll have an idea on how to proceed with the project.

~Homemade Flowers~

Using hangers and some paper or material, hotglue gun and paint...the flowers are ready

for an Easter dinner center piece! Just straighten a metal coat hanger, cut a piece about  12",

bend one end into a flower petal shape. Cut a piece of material usig the petal shape as a pattern,

with an over lap of 1/2". Run a bead of hot along the edge of the petal shape and attach the

material. On the underneath, glue the loose edges to itself. Repeat this for however many

petals you'd like on your flower (I used 4). Put all the petals together with duct tape. Wrap

the stem with green material. Make leaves from same green color material and attach with tape.

Wrap the green material over top of the tape and prop up the material petal. Take about 5 twisty ties (like the ones used on bread bags) and twist them together at one end. At the other end,

curl each end using a piece of the coat hanger (being careful of the sharp edges). Put hot glue

on the twisted end and place in the center of the petals...done...

I used a piece of newspaper on one flower, a piece of gauze from an old emergency kit on

another, and a piece of scrap material from an old tee shirt on the third one. You can paint

the cloth if your feeling crafty...I added some white from the center out to give them a bright

look. Pretty as well as long lasting, you'll have a decoration for Easter or anytime,

year after year...

~Poinsettia ~

I had a lot of fun making these...I used white plastic grocery bags with a piece of brown paper grocer bag in between each leaf...I cut a piece of the plastic bag about 7" long, spread red paint on half of it, then folded in half, then folded like a fan, opened it carefully and let dry (this gave it texture resembling petals) On a piece of paper bag, cut into a petal shape, I drew lines with pencil to add  dimension to each petal. Then applied Mod Podge to the paper, laid the plastic over top, pressed and spread the Mod podge evenly to the edges, let dry, trimmed the excess plastic. With a holy leave shaped pattern, I repeated the same procedure. Hot glued all of the petals to a round piece of cardboard, added some yellow painted twisty ties in the center and a wire loop on the back...then wala...done...

I had a new Christmas decoration and something made using a bunch of plastic grocery bags!

~Halloween fun~

My daughter insisted I make something for Halloween, and I was still determined to use up as many plastic grocery bags as possible...so I set out to make my projects using only the plastic bags...And Boo was born...He's so cute and holds up pretty well outdoors...Then I decided to make the spider and the witch. The spider's body was made using one bag filled with more bags, tied off center, the legs were cut pieces from a bag and then twisted, glued to hold the twist and then glued to the body. Then painted and added white paper eyes. For the witch, I used the same steps as Boo, then painted the head green,

added a paper nose, eyes and mouth. Made the hat from a paper bags, painted and glued on top of shredded pieces of painted plastic bags, then added some black material around the hanger. You do have to use a sealant after painting on the plastic so it won't peel...Have fun!

~Plastic Pumkin~

As with a lot of my projects, I try something with plastic grocery bags. This project makes use of a whole trip from the grocery store... The stem is a toilet roll , a few inches from the top, hot glued the bags around the tube then attached newspaper over top of the edges, wrapping several layers around to give it the shape. Then pulled the bags down and over the paper, stuffing up into the tube. Painted orange and stained the stem...Turned out pretty nice and got rid of a lot of bags...

~Table Top Tom~

It took a few tries to find the fastest, easiest Thanksgiving decoration to make...and it was well worth the time...I used newspaper and cardboard with some paint and hot glue...and now I have a center piece and a nice project for kids or adults...

 ~Christmas Ball~

I made this using up most of my plastic grocery bags...The idea was inspiring...I opened and cut the bags (go here for details), and braided them together to form the hanger, then stuffed a bag with newspaper to form the ball...painted the ball red, threw on some glitter...made the ring for the wire hook holder from a piece of wide gold ribbon and attached...it's so pretty...and it's so light weight, you can hang it anywhere...
