 ReUse Containers

This can be milk jugs, water bottles,

coffee cans,creamer containers,dry drink mix

containers,hair spray bottles,shampoo & lotion

 bottles,2 liter bottles,egg cartons,glass jars,food

containers...it's the beginning of a long list!

For plastic containers, the easiest way to cut off the top

is to poke ahole first. Then you can slip a pair of scissors

into the hole and cut all the way around.

I've heard folks talk about an egg carton being good for

small items and I've used them lots of times but you have to be

careful when you move it because the items on the inside (if

they're real tiny) will fly all over and get mixed up...I've done

just that on many occasions until I came up with an idea.

I cut the front, lid and peaks from another egg carton

and placed it over top of the tiny items in the bottom carton.

the lid fit tight so nothing could fly around. The bigger the items

the more of the peaks you have to cut down, but it works!

For a quick project for a bathroom or

 dresser ...

For the toothbrush holder (could also be used

for hair brushes, combs, etc...) I used an empty

large creamer container, cut down about half.

I used a piece of fabric to cover and trimmed the

top and bottom edges with yarn and Mod podge.

I used an empty lotion bottle for a sanitized soap

dispenser then made a fabric 'sack' to match.

Glued a fold at the top and ran a piece of yarn

thru for the tie.If it gets messy, slip off and toss

in the wash!

(The details and patterns are listed in the Project kit

Anytime a small hair spray or body spray

bottle is empty I grab them up! Clean well with warm

soapy water first.Pour in the tanning oil or hair spray

and you've got the perfect size to take with you!

I mostly use them for spray paint

and spray glue.Mix them with a bit of water

to thin so it will come through the sprayer nozzle.

Spray upside down to keep the nozzle clear.

My grandchildren loved this little

guy! I used a  waterbottle,papertowel tube,egg carton,

hangers and covered him with an fuzzy old bathrobe.

It held up pretty well even after they both played

with it! Tie a string to it and it can be pulled around...hang

on the kids bedroom wall for decor!

The details are listed in our Project kit but I had to

 share the story!

I call this the perfect picture frame because it

holds those wallet sized photos kids get from school.

It's made using a creamer container that has that nice

little flap on the top for the spout...

It stands alone or it's light enough to attach a

magnet on the back and hang it on the frig! Decoration

is only limited to the type of materials you want

to use! Cloth,paper,rocks...it's up to you!

Go to ReUseIt page for details...

I've kept coffee cans for along time...they're

handy to have for storing small items or for using

in the garage for nails..etc...

I found them very useful in my new

workshop! I glued them inside a box, slanted upwards

on the edge of the worktable, added my tools (scissors,

craft knife, paint brushes,etc..)and a jar of water for

cleaning paint brushes (the can keeps everything dry in

case of drips down the sides of the jar when I change

the water). I even added dividers to separate small items!

I usually clean and fill a milk jug with water

and either set itaside for emergencies

or freeze it for ice.

A hint for ice, just hit the container hard with a

hammer all the way around, bottom and top,

trying not to break thru the plastic.

Use a razor blade or sharp knife and cut out

a flap,at the center of the plastic,tap with a

hammer over the cooler or the sink.

The small creamer container can be useful inside

the medicine cabinet to hold small items like tubes

of lotions, razor blade packs, foil packs etc...

Saving the oil after frying in a deep fryer can

be a great way to save some money. The fryer uses

a lot of oil for the proper level and to toss out all that oil

 is a waste!

Keep your empty veggy oil bottles. After the oil has

cooled and settled, using a funnel, pour it back into the

veggy bottle and store. When you go to use it,there will

be sediment on the bottom so just pour until it reaches

near the bottom. Save the bottle again and reuse

for storage or when its time, toss it out!

This project was a gift for someone who is

hot headed! At the center, I used a jar and filled it

with fire balls! I used paper mache' to make the

shape and cover the lid.It turned out so kool!

Basically,I shaped newspaper into balls and

glue them all the way around for the center. Then

paper mache' with newspaper and flour/water

mix,dried and painted.
