ReUsing Cardboard

What comes in a box?

Cereal,crackers,cookies,soda,pizza,

mail order, gifts, auto parts, the list goes on!

This is how most boxes are taken apart. Some

maybe made differently but I wanted to show the

basics.

Scoring is the easiest way to fold a piece of cardboard,no matter what thickness. So in case your not

 familiar with scoring...

Once you've established where you would want the fold, keeping in mind the scored edge will be the outside of the project, place a ruler or straight edge along the line and run a craft knife (just a sharp knife will work) down the line but not pressing enough to cut the cardboard.

Then fold at the line.If you've never done it before, try it on a scrap piece a few times til you get the hang of it.

Need a box for a gift and you don't have one?

Make one! This is the easiest box to make,it only takes a few minutes! If you have'nt saved any cereal boxes or snakc boxes etc...get one from the cabinet! Put the bag of cereal inside a bread bag or ziplock, grab the box and get busy! Click here for details!

I got so tired of reaching in the back of my

cabinets for a container so I came up with a

solution!

I had a large pizza box (the size of the

cabinet width) and long enough to reach

to the back of the cabinet but it was'nt tall

enough. So I attached a piece of taller box

to the back and cut sloping sides

to be able to see in the box.

Now I just pull out my 'drawer' and get

what I need! I would make it pretty but it's

in the cabinet, and I'm the only one who

really see's it!

Our 2 cats are messy when it comes to

eating.I hated stepping on those tiny

pieces they left behind and got tired of

sweeping them up so I came up with

this tray idea and it worked great!

I had a box a bit larger than the size I needed

for both dispensers and some space between.

So I had to cut the end of the box off, and

then re-attach the cut off piece back to the box

using hot glue.Because of the overlap,I had to put

another piece of cardboard on the other side

on the bottom to make it level.

I had some floor vinyl pieces,so I used that for

inside on the bottom to make it water resistant

and on the outside to make it match!

It's so nice to have tissues handy when you

need them (see ReUseIt Solutions) and

found the stores don't always carry a box

that matched the decor! I also like to have

other items handy and figured - have a

tissue box with holders to have pencils,

pens, toothpicks and nail file all handy!

I took an empty box, opened at the seams

scored and refolded so that it was inside out,

and fit over top of a new box of tissues.

I used a cereal box ,cut and folded,

to make the small holders on front.

Primered,painted and glossed the whole

thing and now it matches the decor

and it's got all the little things I like to

have handy!

To get a guy organized you have to give him

something thats easy to use and handy!

This organizer holds his essentials...

comb,electric razor,trimmer,tooth brush

and all the little attachments.I have it placed

near the outlet for charging. So he has his own

little maintenance station!

I used a large tube from a copier, a tube from

a fax machine and a toilet paper tube.

Glued them to a medium piece of

cardboard I scored and folded to make a tray.

I used Mod Podge for the primer, painted,

dried and finished with more Mod Podge

and acrylic sealer to make it water resistant.

Project kit)

This little gem has been one of my most useful

projects! I have a set of pots and pans that

came with storage lids, plus handles that snap

on and off and of course regular lids.So I had

to come up with something to keep them all

together!

I started with a medium weight cardboard box.

Then cut and bent a coat hanger for attaching

to the cabinet door.I placed the hanger inside the

box along the bottom-back part and used

smaller pieces of cardboard to glue over top of

the hanger, inside, for endurance.I folded over

the top edge to make it more stable and to cover

the corrigation for painting.I made a hook to hang

the lids on the outside.Primered with Mod Podge,

painted and finished with more Mod Podge and

acrylic sealer.

in our Project kit)

My grandchildren enjoyed this project! They could

take from room to room and draw or color anytime!

I call it the traveling artist..it has a roll of paper

(I glued pieces of used paper together) and a section

to hold crayons, markers and pencils! Once done

with a picture,it simply rolls down on to another

roller and they have a fresh piece!

Click here for details on how to make it!

I made this remote control holder for a Christmas

gift .I used a brand name from a saved box

for the front so I had to show just the back of it.

It was custom made to hang in a specific spot

but the design can be used for other places.

The principle is the same as the lid keeper,

hanger inside etc...but this I prettied up with a

piece of yarn I croche'd and glued it

across the top.I primered, painted and finished

with the Mod Podge.Leaving out the hanger,

you could glue pieces of magnet to the

back and place on the frig to hold pen

and paper for grocery lists etc...

(The details and patterns are listed in our Project Kit)

A wrapping paper box is so nice to have around

with all the goodies you need inside, tape, scissors,

ribbons,bows,etc...But the ones from the store never

seem to be big enough! And if your like me and keep

every little bit of tissue, ribbons, bows from gifts, you

can run out of room real quick!

This project was made using 2 worn out file boxes

that look like drawers. I had to extend one of them

the length of the long wrapping paper,so I cut

one box in half.On the other box,I opened up the end

and attached the half of the first box to it.

Then made the covers, inside dividers and smaller

lids.I cut holes in the small lids for easy opening.

So I have compartments for the bows,

ribbon,tape,scissors,marker,tissue paper,bags

and on the top of all of it,I put the empty gift boxes!

When it's time to wrap,I just grab the box and I'm

ready!

This is a handy trash can for any room.

I would have prettied it up, but I just needed it handy!

The box started out at 12 1/2" tall but I cut it

down to 11 1/2" for the plastic grocery bags to fit.

I took the divider that came inside the box and sorta

rolled it around and glued the sides to one end of

the box to hold extra bags (tie the bags in a knot

so it's easier to grab). If you decide to paint

a box you have and there is writing/pic on

the outside but not on the inside, open it up

and turn it inside out and re-glue.

That way you have a clean surface to

primer and paint.

I had to make something to have my paint supplies

handy at my work table...I just took a box about the

size I needed and made cardboard shelves! As you

can see, they can get weak in the middle but that

can be fixed by putting more cardboard in between

the shelves vertically for support (I was in a hurry

and just thru this together!) It's a good example of

the types of things you can use cardboard for!
